Short bio:

Carlos Garcia is currently a leader of modern data platform projects at VMware. Before, he was the Director of Engineering of Data Management at Autonomic LLC (a subsidiary of Ford Motor Company). Previously, he worked at Amazon Redshift in AWS and at Pivotal Software supporting the development of HAWQ and Greenplum Data Warehouses. Carlos has remained active in the database systems community, having published more than 30 peer-reviewed proceedings and articles, and has several patents. He holds master’s and doctoral degrees in Computer Science from the University of Houston and a master’s degree in Industrial Engineering from the Instituto Tecnologico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey. He is currently working towards his MBA at Carnegie Mellon University.
